French photographer Emmanuelle Brisson's butterfly series is something I certainly can't get out of my head this Friday morning.  The series is entitled 'L'air frissonne des choses qui s'enfuient,' which translates to 'The air shivers of things fleeing.'  I love the title; it's full of grace, just like the photographs.

Office for two

Office for two
With college starting soon, my dad and I are fixing up the den to use as an office for both of us to share.  I've been thinking of ways we can share the space and separate our stuff, since we both have VERY different organizing style (ie: his are nonexistent, mine are pretty anal).  I love the look of this double desk bookcase.  Do you share a workspace with anyone?

Stargirl
I did this shoot with Emma back in June and never posted the results, so here ya go!  Emma got these really cool stars in Chinatown for $3 each or something crazy cheap like that... gotta love Chinatown :)  The way the light shone through the cut-out shapes was so pretty.

Looking back at these pictures reminds me of Stargirl, the book by Jerri Spinelli.  Have you read it?  I guess it's more for younger readers... I read it when I was 12-ish I believe?  But ugh it's so good I would read it again!

Pops of color
Lots of interior design has been popping up on my Pinterest feed lately, which is how I came to discover this Southern Swedish home from Marie Claire Maison.  The pops of color are so bright and cheery!  Must implement bold accents into my room somehow...  I swear, the Swedes know how to do it right!

Some people have a knack for photographing things in creative ways.  Sabine Timm is one of them.  I love her quirky compositions, especially her 'faces' series.  Her work has definitely brought me a smile on this Monday.

A tale of two chairs
A tale of two chairs
These two beauties captured my heart at first glance at the Alamo Square Flea Market.  As you can see in the picture, there were actually three, but two were plenty to bring home.  One of them is an old classroom chair.... the other one is just old.  The classroom chair one actually has the classroom number written on the bottom.  Neat, huh?  Quite a hassle to transport back home on the train.  They were $5 each, though.  Enough said. I'm pretty sure Mom and I looked like absolute fools dragging these suckers all over downtown SF and on the train ride home, but what's life if you can't laugh at yourself?

They are now sitting comfortably in my room currently housing my favorite childhood series... Series of Unfortunate Events anyone? but you can pretty much use them to put anything on, like plants or pillows or other random knick knacks.

Film with Sonja

Thursday, August 23, 2012
Last week I blogged about the Polaroids I took with Sonja.  Now here are the film shots we took together.  Sonja showed me how I could take pictures with self-timer on my camera (something i never knew i could do!), so we had a bit of fun with that.  You learn a new thing every day, I tell you.

On a more solemn note, the camera store where I get my film developed recently raised their prices, which makes me very sad.  I think it may be time for me to figure out how to make my own darkroom.  Does anyone here develop their own film?

Back to school

backtoschool
Yesterday was the first day of school for all the kids in the neighborhood.  I was always the kid that never got bored during summer and cried the night before the first day back.  I have to say, I felt a twinge of nostalgia watching all the kids walk to school and knowing I will never be able to do that again.

The one thing I always looked forward to about back to school was shopping for new school supplies.  I loved how smoothly new pens wrote and the smell of new textbooks.  I loved freshly sharpened pencils and notebooks that were never opened.  I remember spending hours at The Container Store, walking up and down the isles, clutching my school supply list, mesmerized by how pretty and new everything was.  I happily spent more money on school supplies than back to school clothes. What are some of your favorite school supplies?

PS.  I am completely inspired by this pretty layout from Martha Stewart Living Magazine September 2012.  Oh yes.

Nishe Nishe Nishe Nishe Nishe Nishe I discovered Nishe's Flickr photostream a few years ago, but for the longest time she didn't post anything, which made me very very sad.  Well yesterday I rediscovered her photostream AND saw that she had a posted bunch of new pictures (ever since the new year... gosh where have i been??).  There's a lovely frailty to her images... even if it's just a picture of the sky or the clouds that day (how BEAUTIFUL are the colors of the sky in the third picture?!).  I think I'm in love all over again.

Flea day

Flea day
Over the weekend, I went to the Alamo Square Flea Market.  I've been to a few flea markets (i'm personally more of a thrift shopper myself) and most of them around here are way overpriced and I usually end up leaving empty-handed.  Not this time, though!  This flea market was full of vintage goodies and knick knacks... all at really really good prices.  Which made me really really happy.  There was SO MUCH stuff to sort through it was pretty overwhelming, but in a good way.  Sorta like when you go to The Container Store and get the sudden urge to clean, but of course 100x better.

I couldn't stay as long as I wanted (which is probably all the better for my wallet), but I still ended up leaving with two vintage chairs and a backpack, which I will blog about soon.
