Lately I've been...

Sunday in film.
This week has passed by entirely all too fast. It seems as though time is perpetually fleeing from my grasp, but that's life for you, eh? I had a minor but at the same time kind of major light bulb moment when I realized the last quarter of my high school career begins in three weeks. And then what? All this talk about graduating high school, starting college, becoming a legal adult... I feel like I'm getting old, which I know is a terribly silly thing to say, because I'm not. Not even close. But the thing is I don't feel old enough to be turning 18. It's an odd feeling I can't articulate into words. Maybe you know what I'm talking about? Forgive my rhetoric.

This particular week was a rainy/cozy one filled with copious amounts of green tea and almond butter on toast (my latest addiction). Mom made pumpernickel bread this week. Can you say YUM?

Lately I've been...

... applying to colleges for next year (more on that soon!)
... trying to use my film camera more often
... picking out artwork for my bedroom (see post here)
... reading Cyrano de Bergerac for English class
... baking like a fiend (made these applesauce muffins yesterday)

What have you been doing lately?

M-
As far as I can tell, that feeling never goes away.
I am NOT old enough to have been married 14.5 years, have 3 kids, and turning 35 this year...no way. I still wonder when I will feel like a grown-up...it still hasnt' happened!

Enjoy every moment of highschool and college- including the application/decision process.
I'm 24 and I still don't feel like an adult... There's so much to learn and do in the world!
Lovely picture- pumpernickel bread does sound quite delicious :)

Haha, I read Cyrano de Bergerac too! But it was for french class (I'm an exchange student at a french school in Canada) so I read it in french and didn't really get it..... but good luck to you!

So I just found your blog and let me just say what an awesome photographer you are! I feel the same way as you do about graduating... some days I just sit there and think "Wait I'm not old enough to be going to college! There must be a mistake." It's so nice to hear that others feel the same way. ~ Zelda

Hi Micaela,

I love your photos & new posts. You're so talented. I begin to feel older when I reminisce about the past. I'm sure the same will happen with you.

I completely understand how you feel. It's as if time isn't allowing us to prepare for what we're getting thrust towards.

Ah, I remember when I was applying for colleges. Can't believe that was almost 4 years ago! Like what others have said, the feeling of "not being old enough" never goes away. I still can't really process that I'm 21, already finished with college and am now looking for jobs (I even have friends who are already engaged!) Best of luck in applying for colleges! (Whatever stress you go through, it'll be worth it!)

Girl, you have a great eye for photo composition and for identifying fab spreads. I hope you'll keep your blog going through your busy transitions.

Ooh very excited for you! The next few years will be the best of your life, trust me. You should apply to USC. Not that I'm biased or anything ;)

Strange you mention that. I remember 16-18 were the years I was most obsessed with youth, nostalgia, feeling old (so strange because you are still young at that age). I think it's more to do with the transitional aspect. Half adult/half teenager. You're expected to be mature and take on all these life plans but at the same time, you want to turn back and feel back to summer camp feeling. Also - something about summer does this! This will be the last summer for you as a high school student...and summers were for me, anyways, always that time where you reinvented yourself before going back to high school. Anyways, college application time is very exciting. Where are you thinking of going and to study what?

p.s.
I was wondering you would do a San Francisco travel special? I am thinking of going there some time soon and I'd love to know your favourite spots/recommendations. I've got my Lonely Planet guidebooks etc but they never really know the best places. Any recommendations for inexpensive restaurants, areas to walk around, etc?
