It's a little bit of a love affair...

Monday, June 6, 2011
After my French teacher played Charles Trenet during class and I proceeded to watch Paris When it Sizzles when I got home, my heart is swelling with love for Paris. I am convinced that it will be my favorite city when I see it in real life sometime... whenever that will be. Too bad it's so far away.

I visited in 2004 right after I graduated from high school. I traveled through Europe with a National honors choir and band called Sound of America. I was assuming that Paris would be my favorite city to visit, but I did not have a very good experience. It was July, so it was the height of tourist season. The Louvre was jam-packed, we were like cattle being prodded through, and there were pick-pocketers EVERYWHERE! Outside of the Notre Dame cathedral, there were gypsy children trying to steal from you left and right, and when I was walking down the street, a man knocked me down trying to take my camera. I speak French, and none of the locals seemed very appreciative, but that just may be the culture. I ended up loving other places better, like some of the villages in Switzerland and Germany, but maybe my visit was just a total fluke!

One of my positive experiences was running up every set of stairs on the Eiffel Tower. All of our friends were down below waiting in a long line for the elevator, but we trekked our way up every flight of stairs! That was pretty cool.

Perfect photos!

I have been to Paris a couple of times. It's a sensational town to visit; still, if I had it my way, I'd be bopping through London and some Italian hotspots first! Those are my FAVORITE places in the world.

I've been, and it's fabulous! The food, the people (who were NOT rude, don't listen to stupid Americans!), the sites...everything was perfect. I knew I would love it, and I did.

Now, I'm hoping to take my husband back with me next time. I'm sure he's going to love it too.

I visited Paris 2 years ago on a study abroad trip in July. Needless to say, the city was beautiful (particularly the area around the Seine) but the locals didn't seem to like tourists. It was probably (like someone mentioned) because of the tourist season. However, I'd like to go back to Paris to give it another chance : )

~ My favorite cities remain Rome and London though ~

I haven't been but I definitely will one day. My mom went when she was younger and she tells me all sorts of stories from her trips to Paris.

The ultimate city of my dreams has to be Barcelona though, that's on the top of my travel list.

It's not as far away as you think! It's a wonderful city - see it sooner rather than later! I know you are gonna love it, it's full of awesome photo opportunities! :D

I'm sure the airfare is less than you imagine; spend an afternoon searching for flights. The cheapest hubs in Europe is London or Frankfurt, from there you can get a low-cost flight to Paris for around 50 dollars or less if you book early.

I know a great hostel that is clean and safe (and cheap).

Food in Paris exists in all price classes, don't worry about the cost, you have to eat no matter where in the world you are.

It is possible:)

So pretty! I haven't been to Paris yet, but I'm dying to go just as badly as you! My sister's been all over Europe, though, and she assured me that Paris is just as nice as you'd imagine!

I went to Paris for the first time earlier this year and absolutely fell in love!

I actually didn't want to go - I wanted to save the trip for when I was with a lover, but my friend desperately wanted to go so we went for five nights and I had low expectations, having heard so many times that people were disappointed with it for various reasons.

But, I loved it! Absolutely and completely fell in love with Paris. The food, the wine, the beautiful buildings, how beauty and romance is in everything in Paris! Absolutely loved it.

Both my friend and I agreed that we could easily, easily live in Paris.

I love Charles Trenet! 'La Mer' is one of my favourite songs :)

I've been on a very brief visit to Paris- we spent one night there while visiting family in the Netherlands. We climbed Notre Dame at night (so beautiful), walked by the Seine, and visited some of the famous graves in Pere Lachaise cemetary. I loved it and I can't wait to go back and stay for a longer visit. There are so many more things I want to explore! I want to learn more French before I go back too :)
