Meet my new friend.
Mr. Chai Tea Latte.

I've never really liked chai tea just by itself (a little too strong for my little taste buds), but a few weeks ago, a friend persuaded me to try a chai tea latte. It was love at first sight... err... taste bud from there. Now it gets quite pricey to be buying chai tea lattes here and there all the time, so I've been scheming of a way how I can make my own. Not quite entirely homemade, but the Trader Joe's powdered version of a chai tea latte comes pretty darn close to the real thing. In fact, I'm not sure I can really taste a difference.

Ahhh heaven in a cup. Now... my next task is to try to make it from scratch! Have any of you guys done that?

And i've never tried making it from scratch, but that would be a great rainy day project!

I've seen that and have been skeptical. I think because of this post I'm finally going to try it.

It's so funny you mention this stuff, because I just discovered it about two days ago and am about to finish a cup. Yum!

I absolutely LOVE this stuff. Sadly I live 7+ hours away (and in a different country!) from the closest Trader Joe's. I just bought one of these the last time I was there (last summer.). I'm not sure the next time I'm going to be at a Trader Joe's, but I'm DEFINITELY going to stock up! So delicious.

I love chai latte, but I prefer to brew a strong chai tea (teabags) and add steamed milk.

I LOVE chai. I don't think I've had chai latte, but... either way, LOVE chai. :) You have great taste! :D

One of my friends makes the BEST chai tea from scratch. I have no idea how she does it, but it's so delicious!

A friend of mine taught me his recipe in high school, railing all the time about how 'chai' just meant tea and so it was redundant to call it tea-tea - funny guy, delicious stuff. He made wonderful candy too. I've never been able to get his recipe to work for me and unfortunately lost it in an overseas move a few years ago, but it was mostly just the strongest black tea you could get (assam or something), with cardamom and cinnamon and whatever you liked, but not brewed with a teapot; brewed in a saucepan with milk, left on low heat to broil slowly, stirred constantly, and with honey or sugar to taste... I'm sorry I don't have the old recipe for you, it'll just have to be an experiment I guess!

@leilani.e: Thanks for the tips. I don't think it's too hard; I'll just have to experiment. And I had no idea chai meant tea (so THAT'S why the Trader Joe's label only says chai). Sort of like when people say ATM machine I guess ;)

Love chai, but I can't stand the concentrate or the powder.
The easy way...brew a strong chai with good chai teabags. Heat milk in a saucepan til it boils (I use almond, soy or cooconut milk). I like mine half milk and half tea. Add sweetenr to taste. Honey works best for chai.
You can make a chai mix from scratch, but I always find it too gritty (the spices don't entirely dissolve for me).
Sadly, No chai for me this year, I'm avoiding caffeine during my pregnancy. So now I make Herbal Tea Lattes. Vanilla rooibos, chamomile or mint teabags all work well (just do as above, with any tea flavor you like.)
Happy tea drinking!

Chai latte luuuurvvv.... I always brew black tea in a saucepan and add cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla and heaps of milk and honey! Nothing beats a good chai latte :)

Oh and if you really want something special, use all the ingredients mentioned above but use hot chocolate milk instead of tea! Yumm!

I love Chai Tea Latte. I did a concentrate once, adding all different kind of spices to sweet condensed milk. Then you add a sppon of this concentrate to your black tea...
Have a lovely week, Kristina

haha but great find, my mouth is watering, can't wait to try it!

**Also, I didn't want to comment above on the Pinterest Giveaway since I'm already a member, but I LOVE it and am so glad you discovered it too! Isn't it super addiciting?! Between it and Polyvore I feel I have no self control to close my laptop!!!

hell yea! I work at trader joes and that stuff is awesome. the liquid oregon chai concentrate in the box is a little better i think though! just add milk for a yummy chai latte.

I make my own chai spice mix and have also made my own instant chai latte mix (2 different things). You can see the recipes here:
http://mikknits.blogspot.com/search?q=chai
If you try them, I hope you enjoy them. I made a big batch of the instant mix one Christmas and gave it to my friends as gifts. They were well received. I also included the recipe.
