There's something about skeleton keys that, in all their vintage goodness, have a certain elegance about them. Maybe it's their intricate patterns, maybe it's their delicate bodies. Maybe it's the fact that each one is slightly different. Whatever it is, I am a fan. A big fan.

Autumn longing
Yesterday was the last hot day in San Francisco (i think - we've been having a bit of hot weather these past few days). 90 degrees (32 degrees celsius)! There was nothing much to do but stay inside with the air conditioning cranked up real high, so I decided to take some self portraits and pictures of my room. I was trying to evoke more of an autumn, dark mood and I'm pleased with the results!

I love the look of flowers in a jar. No, actually I love the look of anything in a jar (note: see this post). Cause everything looks pretty in a jar (especially mason jars - man, i love those). And mix-matched jars are even better. I wish I had a windowsill like this to take pictures of my little treasures. Old fashioned windowsills really are the best.

I am a fan of the simple

Monday, September 27, 2010
I know this is not a new trend or anything, but recently, I have found myself looking more and more at tights with shorts. I'm not so sure I can pull the look off (the few times i've worn the combination, it feels uncomfortable to me) or maybe I'm just not used to wearing tights with shorts.

Anyway, I've gathered up a collection of lovely ladies who pull the look off so well.

I am in love with this photo series, Nearly Lost, by Portland photographer, Lisa Warninger. The color palette is so beautiful and the set design is so clever (wouldn't it be really nice for an engagement shoot?). And wallpaper made from pages of books? Yes, please!

What's cotton blue and pretty all over?

Holy moly! Look guys, look! Look how pretty and cozy this home is!

I am absolutely crazy about this kitchen:
What's cotton blue and pretty all over?
Very cottage-y feeling, dontcha think?

Based out of Tokyo, almost everything in this girl's home is thrifted, giving it that sort-of-mismatched-but-cute-and-quirky look. Oh I do indeed lurve it very, very much!

Pastels! Lace! And bows!

One of my fave SF photographers, Cecilia Austin, had a cute photoshoot with Ashley (also the model in this photoshoot) and her friend Lauren. She says this photoshoot was just on a whim, but sometimes those are the best ones.

I love Lauren's trouser pants! Need to get me some. I'm totally crushing on these ones from American Apparel, but alas, they're a tad bit out of my price range.

Anyway, what are you lovelies up to today? I'm off to go outlet shopping with my mom! Btw, do they call it outlet shopping in other countries? If not, outlet shopping is pretty much bargain shopping.

If you ever wanted to know what San Francisco looked like, well, this is it. Not that this is San Francisco (to be honest, i don't know where this was shot-ideas?). But it's foggy like this most of the time (people - not all people, but some people - tend to have the misconception that san francisco is the land of eternal sunshine with people who lounge around in bikinis and daisy dukes - california gurls, anyone?). Anyway, I've always tried to avoid the fog in my photoshoots (sunlight is my friend), but now I'm thinking maybe I should embrace the fog? This also reminds me of abandoned carnivals and I don't quite know why...

Weekend musings

Hello friends! How was your weekend?

To be honest, the weekend started out kind of stinky for me. On Friday, I tried (and failed) to get my photography website I've been working on up and running on the web (boo). My friend and I spent 6 hours (we originally thought it would take 1-2 hours) working on the design because we discovered that even though it looked fine and dandy on my Mac, his PC made everything look seriously messed up (boo again). So every time we fixed something, something else seemed to get messed up (oh, the joys of web design). So I guess the website's sort of put on hold for the moment.

Anyway, on Saturday, I photographed an event for Nylon Magazine (weeee!) at Bloomingdales in SF that was sponsored by Nylon & Bloomingdales and met a mighty lovely lady named Callie (shout-out to callie if you're reading this!) And on Sunday, I did the best of all: The Art Of Doing Nothing.

Hope your weekend was just as lovely and filled with fun and friends.

PS. If you have absolutely nothing else to do, check out this video. I think the background and clothing and facial expressions and everything are GENIUS.

GIVEAWAY: Zoemou - CLOSED

Friday, September 17, 2010
GIVEAWAY: Zoemou
This week's giveaway comes from Zoemou, a jewelry label by Zoe Sernack, who currently resides in Australia. The earrings are from her 'Gypsy Moon' collection, which is inspired by the romantic, nomadic, and exotic life of a gypsy.

The name “zoemou” translates to “my life” and was given to artist and designer
Zoe Sernack as a childhood nickname while living on the Greek islands.
She has been designing accessories for over ten years and launched her own label
in 2005, producing collections far from the mainstream. Each Zoemou “Gypsy Moon“ piece is named after Roma gypsy names, such as Danika (translating to ‘morning star’), or Electra (translating to ‘brilliant one’). Every item is totally unique and individually hand cut by talented artisans. Even though made of sterling silver, the Gypsy Moon collection adheres to the Zoemou philosophy of feeling lightweight and natural, whilst being feminine and strong.

2 WAYS TO ENTER:

  • Get an extra entry if you tweet about the giveaway or mention it on your blog. Be sure to leave a 2nd comment saying you tweeted and/or featured it on your blog.

As a big fan of abandoned houses and old, worn-out rooms, I love tba's lookbook. I love the juxtaposition of the pretty clothing against the decaying beauty. I wonder if they had to sneak into an abandoned house for this shoot...

Anyway, I'm totally crushing on the first and third dresses. So wintry perfect!

PS. I think I recognize the model? (you know when you look at too many photoshoots from too many photographers/designers when you start to recognize the model!)
