A love affair with hats

Monday, May 31, 2010
Yesterday I saw someone wearing a hat. But not a straw hat or those boater hats that are really popular in Japan; an old-fashioned Jackie O-esque hat. And I thought, 'how wonderful'! Which brings me to the adorable Hannah Metz (who you might recognize from the blog hannah and landon) who, like me, has a love affair with hats. And pulls the look off quite nicely.

I wish people dressed up like they did back in the '50s, with hats and gloves and lavish dresses. What era(s) do you like?

I might go with the 40s, though I secretly wish women could dress like they did in the 1800s. I wouldn't do it all the time, but for a day or so would be so nice. Regardless, I think we should all work to bring some of that real style back.

Ohh Edwardian! But truly we live in the best time because we get to appreciate (and wear the hats of) all the times before!

I'm beginning to find hats that don't look completely crazy on me and it's making me so happy.
Hats and gloves, I'm with you on that. Although I really love the 70s, too.

Definitely yes! I whole-heartedly agree! I wish I could dress 50s/early 60s without looking crazy out-of-place. I have a vintage navy pillbox hat w/ a little bow, and another vintage headpiece. I love them but haven't worn them anywhere yet! I'm obsessed with gloves too -- what an idea, women wearing gloves everywhere.

I love the 18th century; gowns and parsolls, tea's and balls. I can only dream. but living in the 50's would be pretty sweet

I agree with you! I adore the fashion of the 1950s, and it would be wonderful if it came back more.
