Dreamers of dreams
Dreamers of dreams
photos by mike bailey-gates.

I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So many great quotes (although this is my favorite)! Gene Wilder, who played Willy Wonka in the original movie, used to live down the street from me. Of course I never saw him or anything and I don't think it was his main residence. But it was still fun to drive by and think "Gene Wilder could be there right at this moment!"

Interesting fact: This quote was not originally from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it was from a poem named Ode written by English poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy. Maybe you already knew that. Maybe you didn't (I didn't!). Guess you learn a new thing everyday :)

I had no idea that it was from a poem! Goodness me ... it sure is true that you learn something new every day! My favorite part of the original with G. Wilder is when he sings ... so simple and true. Love.

Don't you just want to hug Gene Wilder and tell him there's no need to worry?!

I didn't know that either. We've been watching that movie a lot lately. My little girl loves it. I love it so much that I've been afraid to see the new version even though I love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Gene Wilder lived in San Francisco? I had no idea. When was this? I think that is really exciting!

@bronwyn: I should have clarified. I used to live in Connecticut and that is when he used to live down the street as me. Then he moved and shortly thereafter we did too.

gene whilder is a CRAZY actor, he was in rocky horror picture show, he was the clown from "it", he was the villian in "legend", the only modern serious actor I can think of that is like that would be gary oldman but still I can't fathom how many transformations that mans been through.

I think that quote is appealing. Like all else, that is pretty cool he lived close to you.
