"High up on the long hill they called the Saddle Back, behind the ranch and the county road, the boy sat on his horse, facing east, his eyes dazzled by the rising sun.

It seemed like a personage come to visit; appearing all of a sudden over the dark bank of clouds in the east, coming up over the edge of it smiling;

bowing right and left; lighting up the whole world so that everything smiled back.

The snug, huddled roofs of the ranch house, way below him, began to be red instead of just dark;

and the spidery arms of the windmill in the Gorge glinted and twinkled.

They were smiling back at the sun."

"There was no warmth yet in the level rays of the sun, and the dawn wind was cold on the mountain side, so that Ken presently began to shiver in his thin dark blue cotton jersey.

He turned to face the wind, tasting somethings of freshness and wildness that went to his head and made him want to run and shout--and ride and ride--

to go on all day--as fast as he could and never stop--.

He was hatless, and the wind made a tousled mop of his soft straight brown hair,

and whipped color into his thin cheeks that had not yet lost the whiteness of winter school-days.

His face was beautiful with the young look of wildness and freedom, and his dark blue dreaming eyes."

~Excerpt from My Friend Flicka, by Mary O'hara. I've loved this passage ever since I could remember. Aren't her descriptions absolutely breathtaking? I sure wish I could write like that...

I have been tagged by Amanda and Heart in a Cage! This is a really fun tag:
Step 1: Respond and rework-answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of you own.
Step 2: Tag eight other un-tagged people.
What are you wearing now? My green plaid PJ bottoms from my vacation in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, my NYLON t- shirt that I got free with my subscription, and my hot pink slipper socks...I'm just about to go to bed.
What's the last thing you read/are currently reading? The Virgin Suicides...it's taking forever to finish because I'm so busy.
Do you nap a lot? I'm not much of a napper, but if I had more time, I'd sleep longer each night.
Who was the last person you hugged? My doggie, Aubrey (even though she's not a person).
What's your current obsession/addiction? White rimmed Ray Ban wayfarers.
Which item from your closet are you wearing most lately? It's been quite cold where I am lately, so I've been wearing a lot of wool peacoats and blazers.
What's for dinner? I just came back from an awesome Vietnamese/French fusion restaurant which is truly my favorite in the whole world!
What was the last thing you bought? 5 gum, the blue flavor, whatever it's called...it's my favorite flavor.
What are you listening to right now? The sound of me typing and the low hum of the furnace heating the house.
If you could have any super power, what would it be? Hmm...this is a real tough one because I'd want to be a lot of things...I guess either to have the power of invisibility or to be able to read minds...I can't decide.
What is your favorite weather, and why? Sunny, warm weather because I can go outside without having my hair get all frizzy like it does when it's damp and cold.
What time do you usually get up? On the weekdays, 6:30, on the weekends, 7:30-ish.
What is your most challenging goal right now? Finding time to do everything I want, and maintain a balanced life.
Say something to the person who tagged you: Thank you so much! I love your blog-it's so beautiful, like taking a peak into a dream.
If you could have a house-totally paid for, fully furnished-anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Gosh, I honestly do not know. I want to live in so many places, as pointed out by the extremely long list of places in my last post.
If you could have any magazine take photos of you for a photospread feature, which magazine would you choose, and why? Lula, because it reflects the same style as my blog. It's my favorite magazine in the whole world, as brought out in this post from an incredibly long time ago. Ah yes, the days of when my posts weren't so great and I got ecstatic if I got any more than 30 comments each post. We all have to start somewhere, don't we?
Name the things you cannot live without: Inspiration, my religion, my family, my friends, fashion, and many more things...I just can't think of them now.
It's a Friday night. Where are you? At a cozy little restaurant with a friend or two. After that, I'd probably be at home, either writing or creating a blog post or reading.
Since this is a really fun tag and a nice way to get to know all our bloggers, I am going to break the rules and tag anyone who's up to writing this!
Also, I officially have a new vintage icon:
Piksi, a girl from Finland "who studies veterinary medicine at University of Helsinki and loves dresses, thrifting, colorful shoes, and good food."
Here are just a few of my favorites from her that I guarantee you will fall in love with:

Via Luphia Loves... (an excellent blog which I totally suggest you check out)
Which is your favorite? I think I like the third to last one the best...it's really hard to choose though...
LJ from SOS! (Save Our Shoes) brought up a good point to me in her last comment. She asked if I had ever considered publishing a book of the things I post in this blog. And it's really ironic, because I had just been thinking of that...the thing is I want to take all my posts, and make them into one inspirational little book of quotes and photos. Well...what do you guys think? I like the idea, but the copyright issues pose many problems...do any of you guys know anything about what the copyright issues would be on using other people's quotes and photography? I'm hoping it's not too involved getting permission from everywhere...but the thing is for the photographs, I get most of them from weheartit.com, where I don't even know the photographer who took it...which is bad, very bad. It's going to make it impossible to track down where each of my photos are from...ugghhh...I really don't know what to do...but anywho...do any of you guys out there reading my blog right now have any connections with publishing companies or agents that you could hook me up with? I'm getting wayyy too ahead of myself now...I do that all too often...but you guys, please help me out here. I'm totally stuck. I don't know even the first step to take in publishing a book or copyright issues or everything I just wrote about.
Have a lovely weekend! I'm off to the city on a little trip with a few of my friends...
xoxo,
Micaela

You were right, I did fall in love with those photos! She is adorable! Publishing a book would be amazing! Unfortunately I have no clue about copyright laws. Google, always google! And I know what you mean about weheartit. Sometimes you can be linked to say a flickr account, which makes it easy, but most of the time it takes you to tumblr and not even to the page the photo was posted. So frustrating! I hope others will have more answers for you! Have fun in the city!

Ah, sunny warm weather. Not so brilliant if humidity decides to accompany the heat every day of the year. Which is pretty much what we get where i come from.
It's fantastic what you've done with this space. Love that you dream - let's keep them coming eh. :)
that photo's are so beautiful!
Lovely passage, and enchanting magical photographs. Your icon is quite lovely too!
Hope you enjoy The Virgin Suicides...I think its terrific.
Hi dear,
Just LOVE your blog so...
This sentence:
his eyes dazzled by the rising sun.
Pure love.
Your blog is everything...
intense,
breathtaking
and dreamy like no other.
I'm in love...
Thank you so so much, my friend.
<3
Mila.
Oooh i forgot!
I am very, very curious about your collage on your wall!
Are you going to show us?
:)
LOVE.
that picture of the shoes and the cat is so lovely- you always find the best ones!
you so should! i'd buy it. theres a good post on copyright on independant fashion bloggers if you need more info :)
mxx
glad you loved her style too! she has a lot more photos than just the few i picked out on her Flickr site, it's truely amazing! :)
those pics are pic, she's really good. she should publish a book.
you write beautifully.
My favorite dress is actually the second one.
Oh man, I've had Piksi saved as a contact on Flickr for over a year now--she's always inspiring, I just wish she updated more!
Also the passage from "My Friend Flicka" takes me back, I remember an obsessive time when I devoured that author...
Gorgeous :)
I loved reading your answers to the questions too xo
several years ago i would shoot myself for saying this, but i miss high school. the only thing i don't miss are those first days of REAL summer when you're still in school and sitting by an open window during class. and all you can think of is that breeze.. and the sea..
I think it would be cool if you were able to publish your poems. In terms of copyright, it would probably seem more personal in my opinion if you were to put in your own photos or drawings in a book rather than borrow someone else's. I know nothing baout publishing, but I really do hope this works out for you my dear.
Baby steps.. hehe
xx-LJ from SOS!
i think the book is a great idea--sorry i can't help you out with the whole permissions thing. i don't have many connections yet.
Oh San Fran is wonderful. =] Thanks for the comment, it made me smile. =] I went there because we went to a museum with French art pretty much. And then they let us run around the city haha.
Well I'm really not supposed to say, but I will tell you it's between sacramento and tahoe.
Omg, I have major spelling and writing problems, What I meant to say is:
"those pics are cool, you are really good, you should publish a book"
haha sorry.
when it comes to copywrite you would really need to get in touch with your publisher and track down the owner of every single picture and quote, it's a hard process, you might not even get permission to publish all that you want :(
It really is beautiful. I should try and read some of his work.
I love the pictures you choose, you have such a way with images. Does it take you a while to find them?
I adore the first picture and Piksi. It would be amazing if you put together a book.
lovely post, micaela. and beautiful photos!!
❤sb
OK SO SERIOUS...your blog is becoming one of my favs to look at!! i love these collaborations-youre soooo talented! i loved reading all of this!
wow i really love the third pic its so cool :oD
oh wow am a fan of Piksy too,she is soo stylish!
+loving the pics as alays
and the pic with the cat cracked me up!
x
oh, lovely post!
I always hesitate between those superpowers too! Well, invisibility, mind-reading and flying. So hard to choose!
And yayyy Piksi! I love her style so so so much, it's impeccable.
I can't really help you out with the book-issue, it's an amazing idea though! I like inspirational books, because unlike a novel you can pick it up anywhere anytime and just skim through the pages.
i don't know what you exactly mean with effect but i took the photo in the garagewindow so you can see the bikes inside and the garden behind me :] thank you for your sweet comment! x
Lovely post as always<333 Lovely pictures and words. You wake up 7.30 on weekends? Whoa, I never manage that even though you get more out of the day that way I guess ^^
About the copyright issue. I think it will going to be hard to get copyrights from weheartit since it's often linked back to flickr who could very well not be original artist even. But I really want you to publish a book and I'm sure there is a way for you to do it! If you focus on just a few photographers I'm sure it would be easier to collect copyrights and even open up for a collab of sorts maybe~
Don't give up<3333333333333333
That is a beautiful passage. I really like the picture of the girl in the green dress with the trees and the picture of the girl with the bird cage.
Piksi has amazing style...she is an icon!

"They were smiling back at the sun"
That line is beautiful. I love how you find such beautiful photographs everywhere!
lovely photos and quotes as always. and i too just found adorable piksi via luphia loves. we seem to travel in the same blog circles :)
hm, a book of quotes and photos would certainly be lovely... but hard to put together through weheartit, i think. but if you found photographers through flickr who would be willing to work with you, i think it could work. i'm sure it would be beautiful...
xx
chloe
i love those clothes!
Thanks sweetness I missed you too! I love the photos with the cat and the one with the window and the radiator!
Sorry, i haven't got any tips for the book thingy, but i think it's a great idea. Could be tough with the copyrighting, you'll need it for all of the photos. Oh well, you can use mine if that's any help at all. ^-^
♥

Hi Micaela!
I love the white cat on the suitcase picture! And the girl sleeping in the woods~very dreamy. Good luck with your endeavor. I don't know much about copyrights...wish I could help. But I am sure someone in the blogger world will lead you in the right direction. You certainly are talented when it comes to putting words to pictures=)thank you for reading my blog.xx
xo

Hmm...no I don't really know where it is, but you're lucky it's close to san fran!
Oh my, I would love a Drifter and the Gypsy book - there is something so special about having a collection of lovely things on paper, that you can hold and carry around with you. xx
P.S. Did you mean the title of my blog or of the Willy Wonka post? If the latter, it came from the movie - I'm always using quotes for my post titles and seeing if people can recognise where they are from! ^^
oh gosh this post is amazing
that first picture is just beautiful
Oh wow sweets, I think I am in love with your blog, and I've just now discovered it. Lovely lovely.
So inspirational, I love the pictures and the writing, and I've been seeing your comments everywhere. Its very beautiful that you not only write about your own little world, but also venture into others' and comment with sincerity. Love love love.

what a wonderful poooosst .
i don't know if i'd be able to pick where in the world i would live either .. but if i had an unlimited budget, i'd probably have more than one house anyways, so i could live all over the place !
and she has wonderful style + great hair . i love girls who can really pull off the nearly-white-blonde look . it's refreshing .
have a good week !! x
to help you out a bit-
most of the photos you use are from my page, and i always put a link to the photographer. so it would be pretty easy for you to link them as well.
as for you using the passage from 'everything is illuminated', i'm surprised you are asking since you have never asked before. do whatever you have to do.

xx
This post is so perfect, it really fits this in-between, bright but cold weather we've been having here. x
she has exquisite style!
a book would be really cool but youre right, copyright issues would pose too much of a problem i think.
Your blog is so lovely, the photos and the words.. just mesmerizing.
Best bet is to go on deviantart.com where artists post up their own photos. Its kinda like their own bllog you can say but with just photos. good luck.
your posts make me so happy!! your blog is unparalleled, really. <3

oh ty, youre too sweet!
Outstanding post. What an absolute pleasure it is to read through this blog. Every detail from the layout to the music is pitch perfect. Many thanks for producing such excellent work and I'm looking forward to reading more.
wow.i think i'm speechless.no, wait, i really am.do you believe in concidences?i have just written a comment on your latest post, and i saw at the topic: you might also like"..."flicka".now, normally, this wouldn't appeal to me.because i wouldn't know what it means.but just before turning on the laptop i watched "flicka".the movie based on the o'hara's book.that's such a coincidence.love love this post, though i have no idea when did you write it and i don't really care.i'm still speechless.
I am a photographer, and as for copyright law, of course you can't print someone else's work without permission. Think about it. I wouldn't even like it if I found my photos on someone's blog without giving me credit. How would you like it if someone copied your blogposts as their own? I suggest you develop your own photography and print a book with your own work. You do seem to have a clear sense of what style you like, and that's a good place to start. Inspiration is great, but remember some people work very hard to make a living from their art, so please show some respect. Thanks, and I wish you luck with your projects.
