After posting some of my own photos here, a few of you have inquired if you could buy prints from me. And to be honest, I never thought anyone would want to buy my photos!

But this got me thinking...should I open up an Etsy shop? Would you buy prints from me?

You decide!

I would buy them! They would go amazingly in a young girls room or a shabby chic room or any room really. Im working on my etsy shop still but I have a few friends that do really well on it go for it!

That would be a great idea! You should go for it. I love your photos so much. They all tell a story. :)

Etsy is really easy and really great for photographers, just be careful when uploading to upload a super shrinked version of the photograph, otherwise people will save and then print on their own.

I think you should *definitely* offer them for sale on etsy (or wherever). I would love a card with the little girl and teddy bear on it!

definitely do your research before opening a shop, it's quite the job! i think you'd do well though and i would 100% support you.

Your photos are lovely. The only way to find out if they will sell is to put them up for sale. Then see if all who said they would buy, will. I hope they do.

You are talented and you have the ability to create images that others would buy. I think you would be a success. It may not be a quick success, but a success none the less. Good luck and may God bless your hard work :-)

Oh my goodness, I love the one with the girl and the teddy! I forgot to reply to your initial post (I think), but your photography is lovely, and perhaps you should give Etsy a try :)

Good luck with whatever you choose to do - it would be lovely to see more photography from you :)

If you are still debating it, your snapshot of a pretty little girlie with her teddy bear should convince you of it! (I can see it in a little girl's room - or a big girl's room who's a little girl at heart)

Yes, yes, YES you should sell, sell, sell!

Maybe it would be even better to open a Big Cartel shop.....it can be difficult sometimes on etsy as it is soooo big, but your own shop linked directly to this blog may work even better! Just a thought!

I think they are lovely and you will definitely find buyers! You could also try http://redbubble.com :)

Go for it!! The picture with the little girl and the teddy bear is enchanting.

Honestly, no, I wouldn't buy prints. The glow of the light is really annoying and unnatural. You should learn how to use light more effectively and use more interesting angles.

jenni on January 21, 2010 6:24 PM said...

Don't listen to Mr. Mean Anonymous. These are enchanting!!!

Megan on January 21, 2010 6:25 PM said...

Dear Anonymous Comment above mine, you have no sense of style or aesthetic knowledge. The least you could do is offer constructive criticism instead of just being plain mean.

On a lighter note, these photos are beautiful and I cannot wait to read about your decision of what to do with them! I wish you luck in which ever direction you chose to go! <3

Diana on January 21, 2010 6:50 PM said...

Anonymous doesn't make sense!!! Anyways, they look like something out an editorial, don't listen to the comment.

Sachiko Lamb on January 21, 2010 7:42 PM said...

Photographs are made up of more than angles and lighting and composition and other nuances. If your photographs mean something and make a connection, then it can be by all means considered beautiful. After all, it is easier to scrutinize about lighting but it is much more difficult to make that connection between the photographs and the audience.

I think a little photo book would be a great idea.

ABCDErica on January 21, 2010 11:18 PM said...

Those are so dreamy. I especially like the one with the teddy bear.
Yes, please do!

kat on January 22, 2010 5:25 AM said...

Hello my lovely
just saw your tweet about the comment so popped over.
Like I said on your facebook page just last night I love your photos and think not only would they sell (imagine them in a little girls room or nursery!) but you could also do a book at blurb.com
on the topic of the comment above that was rather unfriendly...light is a matter of perception -just like beliefs or love-no one else can tell you what is correct or incorrect it's your personal choice and interpretation that creates. then it's up to the person to choose whether they want to buy your work if they like it.

I am sure that at one point i will buy your prints.I've got a question though. What do you do to make them look so dreamy?have a lovely day:)

Fé... on January 22, 2010 8:51 AM said...

Yes, you should. They're just too beautiful to keep for yourself :p

I'm the same anon as above. I don't mean to be mean and I do mean to offer constructive criticism. I just think the overexposed highlights are a really amateur way of achieving a dreamy effect. There are ways to use light to create a dreamy photo without compromising the exposure. I'm not trying to challenge your vision and I think it's really cool that you have your own aesthetic sensibilities, but I think you need more technical proficiency. Also, I don't see why it's mean to say I wouldn't buy your prints. It is a matter of personal opinion and I never meant to suggest that it wasn't.

Also, dear commenters responding to mine, since many of you read and comment on my blog, I think many of you would be quite surprised to know who I am. (Yes, I am lame for posting this anonymously.)

The Drifter and the Gypsy on January 23, 2010 7:40 AM said...

@anonymous: I don't think your opinion is mean at all. Constructive criticism is better than hearing 'Oh, it's great!' all the time. I value your opinion. Keep in mind, I just started photography in November (so that's 2 1/2 months) so I'm still learning! Be nice, I'm only an amateur!

On all these photos were taken on auto, so I have not in any way compromised the exposure. The dreamy effect is entirely the lighting (although it's hard to believe) there is a spot near where I live where the lighting looks absolutely magical. I shot these pictures all at different times. The first one was when it was a little foggy. The second one was in the afternoon, third-afternoon, etc. That's how I'm getting all these varied effects.
I only pushed some of the colors in PS, but I might change it. I don't know. I've edited these photos so much I have about 5 other copies of them less saturated, less crisp, etc.

Maybe you would like those better? Thank you for being honest. What do you suggest I do? Email me: thedrifterandthegypsy@yahoo.com and I really want to better my photography and am interested in what kinds of angles/new idea you have for me to try. (and yes, please reveal yourself! I promise, no one will bite!)

cami falcão on January 29, 2010 4:15 AM said...

sure, why not? If people want to buy them, go ahead!
even though there are other ways to get these dreamy effects using artificial lights, and it's pretty easy and anyone can learn it, I find it very interesting the way you do it, you have a good 'eye' and this is not for anyone.
keep shooting and improving your skills, I'm curious to see what's coming next.
