and it makes me wonder.

Sometimes I wonder if anything is certain, concrete anymore.

Is there still right and wrong?

Good and bad? Truth and lies?

Is everything still either black and white?

Or is everything somewhere in the middle, in gray?

Is everything negotiable, flexible, left to our interpretation?

Sometimes we're forced to bend the truth, transform it, because we're faced with things that we did not choose to happen.

And sometimes they simply catch up to us.

And it makes me wonder if this is right.

If anything is ethical in our day.

If what we feel is right really is.

And if we are forced to do what we think is wrong, should we do it anyway or reap the consequences that come with refusal to go along with the way life pushes us?

But of one thing I am certain: that truth is still absolute.

It may, in fact be the only sure thing left.

Even when that truth is harsh, unforgiving, painful to imagine, even when truth is more hurtful than any lie.

All photos from here.

What do you think, my dears? Is there really good and bad, right and wrong? Or is it just mixed together and upon us to decide for ourselves? Does the end really justify the means?

I think that besides a few exceptions, everything is more or less in shades of gray. I think that what might be wrong for one, might be right for another. Things change from person to person, culture to culture, life to life. It all depends. It's why it's so hard sometimes, you know? Because there is rarely any absolute.

Lovely post :)

There is a right and wrong. We seem to want to have basic standards for everyone, but that's almost impossible! Everyone is different and diverse.

The only colour that exists is grey because we are all created from a clash of colours. The only thing that differs is the shade because it is near impossible to accidently create the same shade twice. Some shades are just prettier because they reach the expectations of our own shade, are own views of good and wrong.
The same goes for lies. Some are momentarily good but like everything it all depends on intepretation: on the colours that make our shade. No action or consequence is definite so nothing is ever justified because everything can change. Does that make sense? And i would like to apologise for leaving, what seems to be, a cluster of rambling thoughts.

It's funny, because your photo collages and words always seem to crystallize what I am thinking about at the moment.

I believe that there is right and wrong, good and evil. Even if there are people in the world who try to make evil seem okay and try to make good practices illegal. The spiritual war of good and evil is in the journey that each of us takes.

I've forgotten to give you my thanks for telling me the names of your songs here. Sorry! Maybe I'll pick up the piano again when my mom finds her Chopin music.

i think everything is up to ones personal opinion. we choose for ourselves what is right, what is wrong, and what falls in all the lovely shades of gray.

Gorgeous post, those are always questions that are never easy to answer, and perhaps don't always need to be answered (not that's it's bad to ask them anyway)...

Thanks for your super sweet comment, and sure, I'd be flattered if you wanted to quote me in one of your future posts! :)

We all have our own black & white & grey. The amount of each area varies for each person & my black could be your grey.

It also changes. When you're young, it's black & white, but as you grow up they blend.

The worry I think, is if it's all grey.

Truth is a separate entity.

hm, beautiful musings. i will have to agree about the shades of gray, though sometimes what is right or wrong for ourselves is painfully clear...

of course there's always sth right and wrong. but there's also the grey area.

we learn and grow in our life and changes our value judgement as time goes. So there isn't any absolute answers.

love your blog :)

There is definitely good and bad, right and wrong.. it's all about how we choose a thing to be right or wrong, good or bad.. It's all about the person, how he choose to accept something.

Obviously some things are purely good (compassion) or purely evil (genocide), but personally i think that most things can be seen as shades of both. I think it just depends on your perspective...

But no, I don't think the end justifies the means. Not to be too political, but I think the war in Iraq is a good example. If Iraq were to eventually become a strong democracy, that's obviously a good thing, but at what price? They don't want us their any more and so many troops have been killed (not to mention so many civilians there)...

So i just gave myself the task, trying to make a tampon into something refined. :) Believe me, my fellow students looked at me as if i was crazy..

It's hard to be decisive about some things, but i guess you just have to. I mean, one can't walk around regretting things that one hasn't done, just because of the incapability to make a decision.
And it's always up to you to make your own definitions of good and bad. But the golden rule of treating others as one would like to be treated, is always something to consider i think.
Lovely pictures dear!

I am sort of lost right now, at odds with what my dreams were, and are, and will be. Do you ever get that feeling when you just want all life, everything to go on pause, and wander and think in the stillness and motionless world freely. I have that feeling right now, because I need time, however, I am always rushing from one thing to another, my thoughts are always filled with something else.

I know this is quite random but I guess your post made me think that if I am so indecisive, I must be clouding my eyes not to see the truth for some reason. Maybe because I don't want to face some things. How can you reconcile with yourself when you feel lost?

There is a right and wrong, but it depends what situation you are in. Not all the time thoguh. Sometimes what is right and wrong might be subjective, or carried within the circumstances, or is just a difference in views or opinions as opposed to a definite right or wrong.

I don't know if I'm making much sense at 2am, but I hope you're getting what I'm saying.

In case you weren't aware of this.. This is a question thousands of people have grappled and argued over. It's a part of philosophy and theology. Formally, it's a debate between Moral Realism (absolute) vs. Moral Relativism (subjective).

What I love about your blog is that you included this with all of these beautiful pictures. It puts life's questions into a deeper, more meaningful perspective. It's a difference between the innocence and whimsicality of our dreams versus what might actually be the reality. Nice job ;)

BloguleRouge: The first one is a song from the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. It is called "The Chairman's Waltz." The second one is by one of my favorite composers, Chopin. It is Prelude in E Minor.

Oh lovely, this is a wonderful wonderful post. I personally don't think that there are such things as right and wrong. In my life it comes down to two things- respect and kindness. Other than that there is no truth, there is no right, there is no wrong, or black, or white. There is no certain anything, and I try to live my life accordingly, with love, respect, and kindness. Of course a lot of the time I'm not loving, or respectful, or kind, but I'm human so I think my 'flaws' are to be expected and forgiven...

I hope you're well dear!
